Writing FAQ Pages: Answering Really Asked Questions
Updated 2026-10-19 · this page makes no search or citation promises
The direct answer: an FAQ is worth the realness of its questions. Sources by priority: support tickets, search-term reports, sales conversations — invented questions do not belong. Answers lead with the conclusion and link to detail; add FAQPage structured data so engines and AI can parse the pairs.

Question sources (by priority)
- Support records: repeated questions are direct evidence of real demand.
- Search-term reports: on-site search and console queries.
- Sales and support conversations: what gets asked before buying.
- Invented “frequent” questions without a record do not belong in the FAQ.
Answer patterns
- The first sentence answers directly (yes / no / the number).
- Give the basis or boundary (applicability).
- Link to the detail page instead of expanding the full answer in the FAQ.
Structured data
FAQPage JSON-LD lets engines and AI parse the pairs — the same set serves human readers and machines. Note: FAQ rich-snippet display has tightened in recent years, but the structured data still helps AI comprehension.
What does not belong
- Marketing dressed as questions (“Why are you so good?”).
- Questions asked zero times in a year.
- Questions needing a long explanation — those are guide topics; link instead.
